Traveling with The Doctor Part Four

The TARDIS hung in orbit over the moon. The explosion was still spreading over the surface.

The Doctor looked at his screens. "That explosion should have died down by now."

Lauren opened the door and pointed. "Yeah, well, it's still going."

Nate walked over to the door. "What kind of explosive is able to spread across the entire surface of a large moon, yet not leave the atmosphere?"

The Doctor frowned. "It shouldn't be possible. The only kind of explosives that can manage that were used by.... Oh no. No, it can't be." The Timelord's face fell.

Lauren turned to him, confused. "What is it?"

Nate, not wanting to wait for answers, headed for the library. He'd seen enough destruction for one day.

In the library, Nate pulled a locket from his jacket. Opening it, he looked at the picture inside, a photo of a young woman. Her blood-red hair contrasted her pale skin and blue eyes.

He closed his eyes. "Caryl, I'm so sorry."

His mind cut back to that fateful day....

Flashes of a house on fire..... Explosions.... Shouts of "EXTERMINATE!".....

His mind jolted back into reality as the library door opened. He stuffed the locket back into his jacket.

Lauren walked in. "The Doctor's ready to move. Let's go."

Nate stood. "Right."

They headed back to the main room in silence.
